Do you remember the scene from The Devil Wears Prada, where the new intern Andy, is schooled regarding the importance of colour and how it trickles down into all aspects of our life?
Have you ever wondered how these colours are decided upon?
Each January, the Pantone Color Institute announces the colour of the year that will influence product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.
For the last 20 years, the Pantone Color of the Year selection process has required thoughtful consideration and trend analysis. They highlight the top seasonal runway colors, forecast global color trends, and advise companies on color for product and brand visual identity. To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s colour experts comb the world looking for new color influences.
For 2020 the colour of the year is (drum roll please) PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue.
Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.
A timeless and enduring blue hue, is elegant in its simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk and brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit.
CLASSIC BLUE IN FASHION
Classic Blue is a poised and self-assured blue hue, elegant in its simplicity. Genderless in outlook and season-less, this foundational anchor shade enables colour mixes throughout the spectrum, yet at the same time, makes a strong statement on its own.
We have already started to see the colour of the year on the red carpet during award season.
From Nicole Kidman to Renee Zelweger , the look was head to toe monochromatic glam. (Not one for black, I was thrilled to see the Colour of the year embraced in hollywood!). It’s a great way to see this sophisticated shade presented in a formal setting. While we can safely assume blue is a cool tone, this shade is rich and deep enough for both warm and cool hair and skin tones alike. Easy and timeless, we’re going to be seeing this colour trend for awhile!
Classic blue is easy to incorporate into your wardrobe for work or play. Take a look at these colour combinations.
CLASSIC BLUE IN BEAUTY
Classic Blue makes a dramatic statement for eyes, nails, and hair in a variety of finishes from glittery and glam to dusty matte.
